Law and the Art of Storytelling

Our presenter is Bill Richards.
Attorney Bill Richards will explore how tapping the innate human penchant for evaluating the world through stories can help us more efficiently and effectively influence clients, opposing parties and their counsel, judges, juries, arbitrators, and any other variety of person you want to persuade. Come learn more about what storytelling is, how it can be integrated regularly in all types of attorney work, and how you already have the basic skills needed to put this powerful tool into practice.
Bill Richards has over 30 years of civil litigation practice experience in a very broad range of subject areas from complex, multi-party civil rights cases to administrative law and constitutional law disputes, and commercial litigation of many varieties. He began his legal career as a Judge Advocate General’s Corps member in the Honors Program for the Office of the Chief Counsel, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, in Washington, D.C., and upon returning to Phoenix in 1994, became an associate, then shareholder, at Ryley, Carlock & Applewhite. At the end of 2004, he accepted a position with the Arizona Attorney General’s Office, and, for six (6) years acted as Senior Litigation Counsel in the Civil Division where he handled many of the State of Arizona’s largest and most complex civil litigation matters, including actions involving state funding disputes, civil rights claims, election law matters, and claims involving Arizona State Land Trust properties. He returned to the private sector in 2011 and has continued his trial practice in such diverse areas as commercial claims, administrative proceedings, defamation matters, civil rights and other governmental disputes, government procurement cases, securities industry disputes, and employment-related matters.
